Maine Information

Maine is a state in the New England region of the northeastern portion of the United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, New Hampshire to the west, and the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the northwest and New Brunswick to the northeast.

Maine is known by many for it's seafood (especially it's lobsters clams and other seafood). Others often think of it's jagged, mostly rocky coastline, low rolling mountains and heavily forested interior.Those that have travelled there often remark on it's picturesque waterways.

Maine became the 23rd state on March 15 under the Missouri Compromise (as a result of the growing population and a political deal regarding slavery)

In terms of Maine's agricultural outputs, they include poultry, eggs, dairy products, cattle, apples, maple syrup maple sugar and wild blueberries. In fact, Maine produces approximately 25% of all blueberries in North America and is the largest blueberry producer in the world.

Maine's industrial outputs consist chiefly of paper, lumber and wood products, electronic equipment, leather products, food products, textiles, and bio-technology. Maine is also the number one exporter of toothpicks. The largest toothpick manufacturing plant in the United States is located in Strong, Maine, which produces about twenty million toothpicks a day.

Tourism and outdoor recreationalso  play a major and increasingly important role in Maine's economy. It is a popular destination for sport hunting, hiking, sport fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, boating, and camping.
